Sugar in my BowlThe film shows a woman supposedly engaged in the harmless task of making cupcakes. She is wearing an apron made from cupcake cases. The music comes from a childhood creative programme Vision On where the presenter Tony Hart would paint using kitchen utensils as his brushes. The ‘looks’ come from a household cookery programme, channelling Nigella Lawson’s coquettishness teamed with knowing glances.
Cupcakes have assumed baked in values, they represent domestic bliss, they have a fashionable appeal, they are glossy lifestyle accessories. As Nigella says “Food is about how people see themselves, it’s about life.” |
